The use of antimicrobials can play a significant role in how materials are positioned in the marketplace, allowing a product to be distinguished from the competition. Antimicrobials can protect the integrity of a brand by avoiding costly product recalls, or in the extreme case prevent customer loss. The presentation will briefly cover factors to be considered in selecting the proper antimicrobial for a given application. Means of applying antimicrobials to different matrices and guidelines for assessing the antimicrobial properties of treated materials will also be reviewed.
