CONWED attends World of Wipes 2015
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (June 9, 2015) – Conwed, the leading plastic netting manufacturer in the world, will be present at World of Wipes (WOW) 2015 in Atlanta, GA (June 16-19, 2015). Organized by the Association of the Nonwoven Fabrics Industry (INDA), this is the premier event devoted entirely to the wipes industry. With the increasing demand for disposable consumer and industrial wipes, the nonwoven and fabrics industry gather to share technology, market insights and new trends affecting this niche but growing product category.
Within the nonwovens industry, industrial and consumer wipes are among the product applications showing most rapid growth in recent years. Manufacturers, OEMs and converters are increasingly turning to Conwed for netting designs that can enhance and differentiate their products with additional strength and durability but at a minimal weight configuration. “We manufacture a wide range of lightweight netting designs that can reinforce different substrates without considerably increasing the overall weight of the final composite”, said Ivan Soltero, Strategic Marketing Manager at Conwed.
Conwed netting allows manufacturers to create composites through extrusion coating, extrusion lamination, thermal lamination, ultrasonic welding, wet and dry adhesive lamination and diverse nonwoven processes. In many cases, incorporating netting helps reduce cost, weight, height, thickness and overall size of products and save energy, material, and production process time. “Our Thermanet product line is a co-extruded netting configuration with adhesive properties in one or more of its layers that allow the netting to bond with a variety of materials when it is processed through thermal lamination. It provides lightweight and high-strength properties that are ideal for wipes”, said Soltero.
Co-extrusion is a multi-layer extruded netting than can be subsequently oriented where different polymers can form different layers on the same netting configuration. It is a square netting construction and Conwed has the ability to build netting with A/B, A/B/A, and A/B/C layer combinations. “Our netting can have adhesive layers to facilitate thermal lamination with different substrates. This feature can substitute the adhesive application steps from other types of lamination”, said Soltero.
Thermanet® can be laminated to various substrates including aluminum, tissue, paper, nonwoven and film. The integral joints provide strength and dimensional stability to the composite. In addition, the joints create a consistent web for a cleaner and smoother manufacturing process. “Thermanet is heat-activated and offers superior bonding features with minimal blocking, allowing for maximum porosity, absorption and breathability of the composite. Attending and networking at World of Wipes 2015 is the ideal venue to find collaboration opportunities in the wipes industry’, said Mary Liz Cahill, Business Development Manager at Conwed.
