25 years BICMA: Two new machine developments in our anniversary year 2020
Demand for face masks leads to new product line
Mayen, 21 July 2020 – BICMA Hygiene Technologie GmbH, which has been part of the W+D Group since 2018, is in this exceptional year 2020 celebrating its 25th anniversary. The engineering company, based in Mayen-Koblenz, specialising in baby and adult nappies, feminine hygiene and pads, etc., has earned itself an excellent reputation in these sectors worldwide over the past decades but is not resting on its laurels. In this jubilee year in particular, the highly innovative workforce – with the support of W+D as a strong partner – has expanded the product portfolio twice over.
Frank Eichhorn, Managing Director of W+D and BICMA, says: “We are delighted to support a consistent and, at the same time, innovative company like BICMA in the development of the new Volcano Kid pants machine for baby pull-up pants. Moreover, the corona crisis and the acute lack of face masks prompted us to rise to this new challenge together: Within just a few weeks, we designed a completely new high-speed machine, the Auxilium FM, capable of producing high volumes of up to a million face masks a day – ‘made in Germany’.”
In these challenging times, BICMA has created a completely new business segment, helping to satisfy the demand for protective masks at home and in Europe. “In this way, we are also making our contribution to help society by ensuring that the situation that prevailed at the beginning of the Corona pandemic will never happen again. In that, we in the western world, develop and produce machines for the manufacture of surgical masks and no longer have to depend on individual production countries and complete shortages, as was the case in March and April,” explains Frank Eichhorn.
The demand for these production systems is currently very high, which benefits the Mayen site. BICMA is already working on further innovative solutions and is therefore well positioned for the future.
