Calysta Energy™ and NatureWorks Announce an R&D Collaboration to Transform Methane into the Lactic Acid Building Block for Bioplastics
According to the EPA’s website, methane gas “is the second most prevalent greenhouse gas emitted in the United States from human activities.” In 2011, methane accounted for 9% of all greenhouse emissions. One way to help decrease those levels is to repurpose the methane gas. How, you might ask? NatureWorks has teamed up with Calysta Energy to ferment methane into lactic acid. Lactic acid is then used to make Ingeo™ biopolymers. Amazing.
