Code Name: Genesis. Sounds like something from a science fiction movie, doesn’t it? Well, it was actually the secret project name Courtaulds UK used for planning the world’s first solvent-spun cellulose process back in 1979 . . . and it stayed a secret until 1986 when their plans to launch the new fiber were unveiled. Everyone now knows this fiber as Tencel (produced by Lenzing today). It’s interesting to note that even back in 1979 manufacturers of this fiber were aiming to be environmentally friendly . . .
