Prolamina Celebrates Completion of Westfield, MA Facility Renovation
Westfield, MA (September 15, 2016) – Prolamina, a division of ProAmpac and a leading global flexible packaging company, celebrated the completion of their Westfield, MA facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.
More than 100 Prolamina employees, numerous friends, and state and local officials were in attendance including Westfield City Mayor Brian Sullivan; Massachusetts State Senator, Donald Humason; Massachusetts State Representative, John Velis; Debra Boronski Regional Director of the Massachusetts Office of Business Development; Westfield City Advancement Officer, Joe Mitchell; Westfield Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Kate Phelon; and many members of the Westfield City Council.
The event began with a word of welcome from Dave Hopkins, President of Commercial Operations for Prolamina, followed by remarks from Brian Sullivan, Mayor of Westfield who presented Prolamina with a proclamation from the City. Prolamina also received proclamations from State Senator Don Humason and State Representative John Velis. Greg Tucker, Chief Executive Officer for ProAmpac, Prolamina’s parent company, concluded the ceremony with a special thank you to employees, state and local officials, and supporters of the project. Special guests were invited to cut the ribbon alongside Mr. Tucker and the Mayor and enjoyed tours of the newly renovated facility and an ice cream sundae reception.
The Westfield renovation project included a 31,000sf facility renovation; replacement of the 200,000+sf roof; improvement of the building’s air flow; and additional manufacturing space. Prolamina invested over $4 million in this major renovation and allocated another $2.9 million for future equipment upgrades. Prolamina’s Westfield facility has been in operation for over 30 years, and although the building has seen improvements in the past, a refurbishment of this magnitude has never been done. These improvements make Prolamina’s Westfield facility a showpiece for ProAmpac and provide a significant aesthetic improvement to the gateway of downtown Westfield.
Greg Tucker stated, “The facility improvements are necessary to remain a leader in the markets we serve. Along with exterior and interior beautification, there is improved facility-wide technology and green initiatives. Infrastructure improvement projects include: adding additional administrative and some manufacturing space; roof repair/replacement; overall building maintenance and rehabilitation; air quality and flooring improvements; and the accommodation of new manufacturing equipment.”
Prolamina’s Westfield facility employs over 250 people and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
