From INDA's Nonwoven Glossary:
Technical textile
A general term used to describe a broad range of textiles that are designed for
specific
applications. These textiles include nonwovens, wovens, knits and film composites.
The types
of end-products usually associated with technical textiles are nonwovens and
certain woven,
knitted and film fabrics used in products, such as protective apparel (hazardous
waste, fire,
clean room, military, etc.), parachutes, “hi-tech” tenting materials,
flags, automotive interior
fabrics and housewrap - to name a few.
