Student Paper Competition
September 9, 2008
Hilton Americas-Houston, Houston, Texas
Students are invited to submit a manuscript for the 2008 Student Paper Competition in nonwoven fabric science, engineering and related subjects.
Eligibility: All candidates must be, or have recently been, active in nonwoven research and be enrolled as a student in a degree program at the time of submission of the manuscript or within the last 12 months of the submission deadline, in order to be eligible for the Award.
Manuscript: The paper should describe a study of original research and must be overwhelmingly the work and writing of the student submitting the paper. The length of the manuscript is limited to a maximum of eight pages of text including references (400 words per page) and it should not have been previously published. Since the paper will not be published in any conference proceedings, the manuscript can be revised later for submission to the journal of the candidate’s choice.
Selection of Finalists: Manuscripts will be evaluated by members of the Student Awards Committee on the basis of scientific merit and clarity of presentation. Three finalists will be selected and invited to attend the meeting in order to give an oral presentation of their paper. Manuscripts accepted for presentation are restricted entirely to the student paper session and will not be allowed to be presented in any other INTC session by the student, academic advisor or any other person. Each finalist will receive a registration fee waiver and will have his or her travel costs to the conference subsidized by up to $400.
Evaluation of Finalists: At INTC 2008 (September 9, 2008) each finalist will be expected to give a 15 minute presentation, followed by a 5 minute period for questions and answers. A panel of judges will select the recipient of the Award on the basis of the technical merit of the research, the quality of the oral presentation, adherence to the event’s non-commercialism rules (to include school logos) and the finalist’s ability to answer questions and keep on schedule.
The Award: The three finalists will be acknowledged at the INTC 2008 Award Ceremony. The finalists will share a cash award of $800 (first place: $500, second and third place: $150 each).
Deadline for Submission of Paper: All
candidates are required to submit their manuscript to the Student
Awards Committee by May 30, 2008. An electronic copy (MSWord) is
preferred.
