TANDEC at the University of Tennessee brings together academics and industry to provide leadership in research, education, and industry services, fostering new developments in melt-processed nonwovens. A primary goal of TANDEC is to create an environment for ongoing innovation while protecting the proprietary and confidential information of TANDEC’s researchers, members, and clients.

Utilizing our substantial expertise in nonwovens and textiles, TANDEC can customize research programs to meet the specific needs of clients. With immediate access to pilot lines, testing facilities, and to the considerable expertise in Textile Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical and Plasma Engineering, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Tennessee, TANDEC offers unique capabilities in fundamental science, process improvement, and applications development.

A list of TANDEC core competencies includes: Melt Blowing, Spunbonding, and Thermal Bonding of Nonwovens; Tantret Electrostatic Charging Technology; Image Analysis of Fibers and Webs. Cotton Laminates and Composites; Polymer Rheology; Neural Networks and Modeling; and Plasma Treatment of Polymer Films and Webs.

Industry line services include: A 1-meter Reicofil ® Spunbonding Line, a 20-inch Accurate Products Melt Blowing Line, a 6-inch Research Melt Blown Line, and a 500 mm Reicofil ® Bicomponent Melt Blowing Line. TANDEC maintains a Nonwovens Characterization Laboratory with the capability to meet most needs of the researchers.
